Licensing
We are still working through these ideas. This website is not has not been publicized yet. Feedback and input from interested parties is welcome.
CPAs
We feel our largest potential market for licensing opportunities exists with CPAs in the individual and small business tax preparation business. If you've read this site you realize we strongly advise that all folks use a CPA for their tax preparation. We do not see any threat to CPAs from this publishing and in fact we see a benefit on all fronts there. We do see a potential hit on bookkeeping, so for those that do bookkeeping with Quickbooks that revenue stream could take a hit. There are various things to consider and we are very interested in getting feedback from CPAs prior to launching this.
- Ask CPA's to pay a $5 to $20 licensing fee for each client they use it for (meaning client drops off shoe box -- you do books in this solution and give them a file with their tax return). Obviously that fee could be passed on to their clients as a line item fee and separate from their fees they charge for the work. Clients would be given a 1 page piece of paper from CPA explaining what they got and the licensing fee paid by CPA on their behalf. It would be full honor system. CPAs interested in participating would sign up with us and we could add them to our website directory or not (their discretion). There may or may not be a small fee for signing up with us
- Ask CPA's to pay a flat fee per year for limited and/or unlimited use of the tool that year for their clients. The fee does not have to be big. $100 to 500 year. With this system we would ask they NOT charge a line item fee to their client for the software but rather give out a 1 page flyer stating what they got and why they got it (the CPA has a license) and then that flyer would ask for donations from client as they deemed fit.
Bookkeepers
This seems like it could be a real hit to the bookkeeping industry. We feel there still may be room for creative bookkeepers to use this tool and make money but they are no longer going to be able to coast on Quickbooks complexity. Licensing fees here are open for conversation.
Trainers
People who do training for a living are a good target. We'll likely ask for a $5-20 per person fee for each person they train for a fee. Again we'd have a system where they register with us (free or for a fee) and they could be listed on this website if desired.
Small Business Consultants
We'll likely have some system in which we ask them to register and or donate... and
Educational Facilities
We may or may not ask for licensing from folks to use this as part of curriculum. Ideally, the licensing and donations from those using this for commerce will be enough to enable us to waive fees for educational use.
