We've done the majority of the videos below with the Debits and Credits version of or software so apples to apples comparisons can be made to past accounting software. The Debits and Credits version of Part A is nearly identical to the Positive and Negative values version. Occasionally we reference the Positive and Negative values version and where the files differ we provide the needed information for both files.
Generally speaking, if you are going to download all of your transactions at all times, the Positive and Negative values version is simpler to setup and use. If you are going to hand enter some transactions it is also simpler, although you'll just need to be mindful of one common mistake that will transpire.
If you want to manually enter your transactions, you may ultimately prefer the debits and credits version as it's a little easier to spot errors and mistakes in that version although either can work. We created the debits and credits version primarily for those who are in the accounting industry who feel more comfortable with such a system and who may build out accounting software well beyond the basics. We also built it for "debits and credits" based accounting education purposes.
